SPEAK NO EVIL 29.10.2011 Turku Castle!

"An innovative combination of ancient and modern technologies, Speak No Evil treats the audience to a spectacular version of a traditional mummers’ play in the parkland and streets surrounding Turku Castle. The show, part theatre, part concert, part public ritual, features giant puppets, street theatre and dance, fire sculpture, spectacular lanterns, a rock guitar duel, stadium rap, opera, and digital puppetry.

Speak No Evil brings the folk-drama tradition of “mumming” firmly into the 21st Century, but the theme is as old as time itself: the battle of opposites, of Good and Evil, Darkness and Light, Winter and Summer. The Lord of Ultimate Despair has trapped the Spring Queen in his dungeon, and the Colour Children of the World gather to break her free. A great battle is followed by a perilous journey through mythical landscapes on a grand collective quest to restore the Spring Queen to her full health and power.

CulturaMobila Community Arts is making Speak No Evil especially for Turku 2011, together with over 300 collaborators from Turku and throughout Southern Finland, as well as special guests from abroad. Experienced artists are working alongside arts students, specialist groups, primary schools and individual enthusiasts to make this an event which everyone will remember for a long time to come."
